If you have any problems make sure you do the following.
Make sure you are able to view hidden files and folders and operating system files.
Also make sure you kill the Tasmgr process before trying to delete any files!

I have followed all these instructions (before I visited this forum)

"Kill the process task manager (there are 2 one is fake). Delete taskmgr in documents&settings\(user name)
delete kill brontok 4rm this folder %temp%
deletd registry keys to do with taskmgr if they dont seem to be stored in the system 32 folder finally delete boot.exe and autorun.inf in the root of every drive.

However, even though in the same session the problem seems to have been resolved, the next time I restart the computer the same errors appear. I believe this is indeed w32 olderdata, and I need help in stopping it from happening again

following all the processes listed in the above posts solved my problem with this virus.

If you have any problems make sure you do the following.
Make sure you are able to view hidden files and folders and operating system files.

open task manager (taskman.exe) ctrl-alt-del
Kill the process task manager (there are 2 one is fake).
if you kill the real one task manager will close, reopen & kill the other one. the fake file called 'taskmgr.exe', mine was in root:/WINDOWS

Delete taskmgr in documents&settings\(user name)
delete kill brontok 4rm this folder %temp%

you can use ctrl-f to find these... task*.* and brontok*.*

deletd registry keys to do with taskmgr if they dont seem to be stored in the system 32 folder

start-run-type in 'ms-config' goto 'startup' tab, look through there if funky shit is loading @ startup and find out registry entry locations to delete if you cant find them looking through w/regedit.

start-run-regedit. locate and delete entries

finally delete boot.exe and autorun.inf in the root of every drive.

if you cannot delete these it is because they are still running, goto step one.. killing the task manager process still running.
alternatively you can rename them and change the extension to whatever .fkd .del etc. then delete.

this virus also is creating a file called linkinfo.dll in c drive...

more specifically mine were in root:\WINDOWS\system32 and also another in the dll cache folder. just delete and your problem will be solved.
if you cannot delete these try first deleting the one in the dll cache folder. untick all boxes in attributes/properties, rename and change extension if needed.

i had linkinfo.dll in both folders and couldn't delete the one in system32, another would pop up in its place. after persistance and changing atributes (unticking every box in every tab.. read-only, hidden, indexing) and renaming to f.this.txt, i moved it to another folder and killed power to the machine. during booting 'F8' to start in safe mode w/command prompt. went to dircetory where file resides then used 'edit' to open this now f.this.txt file. select all mumbled machine text and delete, save. then to finish i 'del f.this.txt' to delete, restart. everythings been good. i probably made this so much more complicated than it had to be.

Boot.exe come to my PC from a flash drive and then,
I'm in trouble. Boot.exe run in my PC and I can't see it's process in Task manager and other process manager utilitys. When a flash drive is plug into my PC, that virus send to flash drive as two files
boot.exe and autorun.inf.
It copied many executable file(*.exe) to the folder from the disk called system volume information and the hard disk space is less and less. When this is working, some installed programs stop working. And, It can insert its code to some application's executable file(e.g nero ultra 7.5 Demo, warcraft , Ulead Video Editing 11.5 and so on).By the result, When you install software (nero ultra 7.5 Demo which is from the PC with boot.exe virus) to a PC, and then
boot.exe is working in that PC.

In anywhere(Desktop or My Documents, create a file autorun.inf.If you can create, you can know that PC has no boot.exe virus. If that PC has boot.exe virus,
it will tell you that "autorun.inf is already exists.Dd you want to replace it?"
Click "yes". But you can't see autorun.inf in the Destination.
